What is the New Parent Support Program?
The New Parent Support Program (NPSP) is a program offered to Army families to enhance parent and infant attachment, increase knowledge of child development, and provide connections to support services that allow parents to become nurturing and capable caregivers.

New Parent Support Programs (NPSP) are child abuse/neglect prevention and education programs. NPSP provides families educational assistance with the challenges of parenting infants and young children within the transitory military lifestyle.

Two levels of NPSP services are offered:
Participation in any of these activities is strictly voluntary and open to all new parents.

  1. NPSP Standard – All Army installations provide NPSP-Standard services that include education classes and play mornings.
  2. NPSP Plus (NPSP+) – This program is more intensive and targeted to families at a higher risk for child abuse. Periodic assessments, intensive parent monitoring and long-term home visitation are some of the services provided by NPSP+. NPSP+ has social workers and nurses who do home visits and provide various other services. Home visitors cover a wide range of topics with families, from potty training and discipline to feeding schedules and time management.

The NPSP staff consists of licensed social workers and registered nurses who provide in-home parenting education, support, and resource linkage.
